Waasaa-inaabidaa is an Ojibwe term it means " we look in all directions ". We do so to see what our actions cause. To take only what we need and leave the rest.
The spiritual and physical worlds are intermingled to such a degree that the guiding philosophy is one of great respect for the earth mother, reverence for the spirits that guide and teach, and a sense of humility and nurturing and protective responsibility in the day-to-day relationships one has with the natural environment.
The Ojibwa cosmology does not make a distinction between the creation and the creator. The cardinal directions of east, south, west, and north have representation in the cycles of the year (spring, summer, autumn, winter) as well as the cycles of life (birth, youth, middle age, elder). This philosophy of connectivity and interdependence results in a life style deeply reflective of these basic beliefs.
We must look in all directions "Waasaa-inaabidaa". We're not alone here.
Honor The Earth: Make your peace with her. Then reflect that commitment. Our weather just may improve.
We also look within Ourselves to bring inner peace and serenity using a Bhudist Philosophy,
Buddhism is not learning about strange beliefs from faraway lands. It is about looking at and thinking about our own lives. It shows us how to understand ourselves and how to cope with our daily problems.
He discovered three great truths. He explained these truths in a simple way so that everyone could understand them.
1. Nothing is lost in the universe
The first truth is that nothing is lost in the universe. Matter turns into energy, energy turns into matter. A dead leaf turns into soil. A seed sprouts and becomes a new plant. Old solar systems disintegrate and turn into cosmic rays. We are born of our parents, our children are born of us.
We are the same as plants, as trees, as other people, as the rain that falls. We consist of that which is around us, we are the same as everything. If we destroy something around us, we destroy ourselves. If we cheat another, we cheat ourselves. Understanding this truth, the Buddha and his disciples never killed any animal.
2. Everything Changes
The second universal truth of the Buddha is that everything is continuously changing. Life is like a river flowing on and on, ever-changing. Sometimes it flows slowly and sometimes swiftly. It is smooth and gentle in some places, but later on snags and rocks crop up out of nowhere. As soon as we think we are safe, something unexpected happens.
Once dinosaurs, mammoths, and saber-toothed tigers roamed this earth. They all died out, yet this was not the end of life. Other life forms like smaller mammals appeared, and eventually humans, too. Now we can even see the Earth from space and understand the changes that have taken place on this planet. Our ideas about life also change. People once believed that the world was flat, but now we know that it is round.
3. Law of Cause and Effect
The third universal truth explained by the Buddha is that there is continuous changes due to the law of cause and effect. This is the same law of cause and effect found in every modern science textbook. In this way, science and Buddhism are alike.
The law of cause and effect is known as karma. Nothing ever happens to us unless we deserves it. We receive exactly what we earn, whether it is good or bad. We are the way we are now due to the things we have done in the past. Our thoughts and actions determine the kind of life we can have. If we do good things, in the future good things will happen to us. If we do bad things, in the future bad things will happen to us. Every moment we create new karma by what we say, do, and think. If we understand this, we do not need to fear karma. It becomes our friend. It teaches us to create a bright future.
The Buddha said,
"The kind of seed sown
will produce that kind of fruit.
Those who do good will reap good results.
Those who do evil will reap evil results.
If you carefully plant a good seed,
You will joyfully gather good fruit."
Dhammapada
1. Right View. The right way to think about life is to see the world --with wisdom and compassion.
2. Right Thought. We are what we think. Clear and kind thoughts build good, strong characters.
3. Right Speech. By speaking kind and helpful words, we are respected and trusted by everyone.
4. Right Conduct. No matter what we say, others know us from the way we behave. Before we criticize others, we should first see what we do ourselves.
5. Right Livelihood. This means choosing a job that does not hurt others. "Do not earn your living by harming others. Do not seek happiness by making others unhappy."
6. Right Effort. A worthwhile life means doing our best at all times and having good will toward others.
7. Right Mindfulness. This means being aware of our thoughts, words, and deeds.
8. Right Concentration. Focus on one thought or object at a time. By doing this, we can be quiet and attain true peace of mind.
Following the Eightfold Path can be compared to cultivating a garden, & cultivates one's wisdom. The mind is the ground and thoughts are seeds. Deeds are ways one cares for the garden. Our faults are weeds. Pulling them out is like weeding a garden. The harvest is real and lasting happiness.
The wheel of Celebrations in the Eclectic Path vary to not only 8 of the Wiccan/ Pagan View but offer more:
Wiccan holidays are based on the major solar and lunar events on the Wiccan Wheel of the Year.
Wiccan rituals for the Sabbats, for instance, celebrate the Sun's influence on the Earth -- that is, the seasonal growing cycle.
Wiccan Esbats honor the phases of the Moon, particularly the Full Moon.
Most of the Wiccan holidays are similar to celebrations in other religions. For instance, Yule and Christmas correspond so closely, they are almost interchangeable.
There's a simple reason for this. Paganism predates these religions, and influenced their development. Here is a list of the eight major Wiccan holidays, or Wiccan Sabbats as they are celebrated today.New Years Day October 31st at sundown Also known as Samhain or All Hallow's Eve. This is New Years on the Druid calendar. The wall between earth and the underworld is thin at this time of year. On Halloween night, the wall opens. Samhain, the Lord of Darkness, rises from the underworld. He roams the world looking for lost souls.
Winter Solstice (December 21st) Also known as Yule. This is the shortest day of the year. And, conversely, the longest night. This celebrate the birth of the Sun God, as from this point forward the days get longer. Wiccan celebrations include yule logs, yule trees and Mistletoe.
Imbolc February 2and This day honors the Brigid, the goddess of fertility, fire and healing. It is also a time of increasing strength for the sun god. This Wiccan holiday coincides with Candlemas and Ground Hog's Day.
Ostara March 21st This day on the Witches calendar, is the Spring Equinox. The German goddess Ostara, goddess of Fertility is honored. More on Spring Equinox.
Beltane May 1st Previously celebrated on May 5, Beltane was moved to May 1st to coincide with May Day. This is a high holiday in celebration of the god and goddess of fertility. Eggs are a sign of fertility, and a symbol of this day. Early summer warmth is in the air.
Summer Solstice or Litha June 21st This day celebrates the sun god at his highest point. Nighttime has been dominated by daylight. More on Summer Solstice.
Lammas or Harvest Eve July 31st This holiday celebrates the first harvest.
Feast of Mabon September 21st The Autumn equinox has arrived. On the Wiccan calendar, we celebrate the celebration of the birth of Mabon, the son of Mordon, the Goddess of the earth. It is also the harvest festival. More on Autumn Equinox.
We also celebrate the specific moon cycles- more material printed later in the pamphlet.
What are Pentagrams?
Pentagrams were used symbolically in ancient Greece and Babylonia, and are used today as a symbol of faith by many Wiccan's, akin to the use of the cross by Christians and the Star of David by Jews. The pentagram has magical associations, and many people who practice Neo pagan faiths wear jewelry incorporating the symbol. Christians once more commonly used the pentagram to represent the five wounds of Jesus. The pentagram has associations with Freemasonry and is also utilized by a number of other belief systems.
"Let us keep the figure of the Five-pointed Star always upright, with the topmost triangle pointing to heaven, for it is the seat of wisdom, and if the figure is reversed, perversion and evil will be the result."
(The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints began using both upright and inverted five-pointed stars in Temple architecture, dating from the Nauvoo Illinois Temple, which was dedicated on April 30, 1846. Other temples decorated with five-pointed stars in both orientations include the Salt Lake Temple, and the Logan Temple. These symbols derived from traditional Morning Star pentagrams that are no longer commonly used by other Christian denominations)
In our Church we teach that......
understanding that the five vertices of the pentagram represent the four elements with the addition of Spirit as the uppermost point. As a representation of the elements, the pentagram is involved in the Wiccan practice of summoning the elemental spirits of the four directions at the beginning of a ritual.
The outer circle of the circumscribed pentagram is sometimes interpreted as binding the elements together or bringing them into harmony with each other.
